Post Production Tutorial

final

In this tutorial we’ll be doing some post production work, the aim is to get the most out of your photographs by just making a few small changes. These subtle changes can make all the difference if you’re selling your photos on stock sites.

Beautiful Blond photo

Step 1

Open up the image and select the Channels Panel. Inside the panel select the Red Channel, press CRTL A to copy and then select the RGB Channel and press CRTL V to paste. Go back to your layers panel; you now should have a new layer above your original background layer.

step-1a

Step 2

Create a new layer above the channels layer we created in the previous step. Fill this layer with the colour #e8ad62. Change the layer mode of the new layer to Soft Light.

step2

Step 3

Merge the 2 layers and change the layer mode to Soft Light.

step3

Step 4

Right click the layer and select Flatten Image.

step4

Step 5

Again in the channels area select the Red Channel and open up the Brightness and Contrast dialog box (image/adjustments/brightness and contrast). Inside the dialog box set the Contrast to 13. Now do the same but use the Green Channel and give it a Contrast value of 22. Re-select the RGB Channel and you’ll see the result of the Brightness/Contrast adjustments.

step5

Step 6

Select Image/Adjustments/Levels to open up the Levels dialog box. First select the Red Channel and give the middle arrow a value of 0.80. That’s all the Level settings I used for this particular image but you might want to change the greens and the blues to suit your own needs.
