Another Post Production tutorial from our on going series. With this technique you’ll learn how to make your portrait shots come alive simply by adjusting the RGB channels.

Step 1

Open up the image and immediately duplicate the background layer. Now create a new gradient Map (image-adjustments-gradient map) Make sure the gradient map is set from black to white and click ok and set the layers opacity level to 60%.

Right click Layer 1 and select flatten image, now go into the channels tab and select the red channel change the contrast of the channel to 40 (image, adjustments, brightness/contrast) and click Ok. Now select the green channel, but give it a contrast value of 30.

Still in inside the channels tab select the RGB channel and open up the hue and saturation dialog box (image-adjustments-hue and saturation). Set the saturation value to 15 and click ok.

Go back to the layers panel, duplicate the layer, set the layer mode to soft light and set the Opacity value to 52%. Finally flatten the image and you’re done.
